About Boston Harbor Now
Boston Harbor Now is a civic nonprofit organization that plans, advocates, and activates a thriving waterfront, harbor, and Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park. Our comprehensive approach to the harbor prioritizes equitable access through parks and open spaces, well-designed infrastructure and ferries, maritime industry, climate-resilient waterfront development, programming that promotes recreational and educational uses, and maintenance of the clean harbor.
Major activities we do include:
-Leading and curating over 420 free events and programs each summer to activate the islands and waterfront through arts, fitness, recreation, and cultural programming.
-Providing free access to the islands and waterfront for over 19,000 children and families each summer through youth programs, neighborhood cruises, and free ferry days.
-Conducting a 9-month water transportation study in partnership with MassDOT, Massport, National Park Service, and others to develop and advance a Boston Harbor-wide water transportation plan for expanded ferry service.
-Co-manage and improve visitor experiences of the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park, which is visited by 125,000 people each year.
-Partner with the City of Boston and waterfront communities to prepare for sea level rise while promoting outstanding waterfront open space, including working closely with BPDA on the implementation of Imagine Boston 2030.
-Support investment and innovation in Boston’s working port to better support our 21st Century maritime economy, including hosting a Working Port Symposium in January 2018 to provide a discussion platform for voices from all sectors interested in and affected by the working port.
